Bienvenidos
Spanish 1 is a full year high school level course. You will receive high school credit for this class provided you pass the course at the end of the year. Students will be developing skills in speaking, reading, writing and listening to Spanish. They will learn about the culture of the Spanish speaking
world. They will learn that second language learning is not the simple memorization of vocabulary and grammar, but also the understanding of another
people through cultural, historic and linguistic insights.
We use the text book Avancemos 1 and will cover the entire book. By the end of the year students will be able to: describe themselves and their friends and family, describe their likes and dislikes, describe their school schedule and their school activities and describe what they like to eat. They will be able to complete basic shopping activities, describe their clothing, describe their town, make plans, describe their home, plan a party and outing, describe sporting activities and discuss vacations and leisure plans. They will be able to ask and answer basic questions and will be able to express opinions and emotions. They will be able to use both the present tense and the past tense and will learn to describe when things occur.
You may download a copy of the syllabus along with my grading policies for Spanish 1. Please read the course syllabus and feel free to contact me if you have questions about any of my policies. I am looking forward to a wonderful year in Spanish this year!

Tarea-Homework
Students will be able to select 4 activities each week to complete as homework. These activities include pen and paper activities as well as online activities. The weekly activities are designed to give students practice with vocabulary and grammar. Tarea is divided into 4 categories: Aprender (Learn), Estudiar (Study), Practicar (Practice) and Usar (Use). Students must complete one activity from each category every week. Students may hand in paper copies or submit activities online via Google Classroom or via email. Students should use the Tarea submission for each week to indicate which assignments they have completed and submitted. Parent signature are only needed for those assignments which can not be handed in. I will only accept 1 assignment with parent signature each week. Tarea activities are due each Friday.
